THIRD FASTEST LAP FOR JUAN MANUEL CORREA IN SPAIN’S RACE ONE
Updated: May 27
“American starts from pit lane and drivers his Sauber Junior Team by Charouz to fourth before an issue”
May 11, 2019 – With the first wheel to wheel action of the weekend, Juan Manuel Correa took on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain with the hopes and plan to drive forward for his qualifying position. With a mechanical issue on the formation lap and starting the event from pit lane, the young American drove to the third fastest lap of the race but was unable to complete the full race distance.
“Pretty tough day as we had an issue with the clutch on the formation lap and had to start the race from the pit lane,” explained Correa. “From there, we had to push hard early to make up the ground but then the pace seemed good until the halfway mark but that is when we had a brake failure and lost all rear braking capabilities.”
Beginning the race from pit lane, Correa’s pace matched the drivers at the front of the field as he worked hard to close the gap. Battling forward and into the fourth position, disaster would strike as Correa ducked to the pits to not risk hurting the car any further.
Correa continued, “We had to pit to fix the brake issue and essentially, that was our race. Pretty disappointing day but a silver lining is that the pace was quite good in the end.”
Race two on the weekend will total 36 laps and a complete race distance of 121.030 kilometers. The race will take the green flag on Sunday at 11:30 (GMT+2) or 5:30am (GMT-4) in the United States.
