Juan Manuel Correa before his debut in the FIA Formula 2
This weekend begins the third season of the FIA Formula 2 at the circuit of Sakhir, in Manama, capital of Bahrain. On Wednesday night Juan Manuel walked the track to explore and learn about the circuit. "We planned to walk the track on Thursday, but the temperatures here are high during the day, and the engineers preferred to do it on Wednesday night," commented Juan Manuel. Today he is wrapping up final adjustments and checking that all radio communication with Patrick Ven der Leeuwen, his engineer is working smoothly.
"This is my first time in Bahrein, the circuit is, and there is a great atmosphere. During the simulator sessions, we learned that the circuit is very technical, which we confirmed after doing a track walk. In tomorrow's first practice it's important to be alert and see what it feels like to drive here for the first time. This practice will help us to prepare well for the qualification. We understand that tomorrow will present some challenges we are the first to drive on this track which we found has a lot of dirt everywhere. Let's see what happens tomorrow; the goal is to be focused."
The first session will be held at 11h30 local time, with a duration of 45 minutes. Later the qualification will be at 4.50pm with a duration of 30 minutes and with a much cleaner track, since the Porsche GT3 Cup Middle East and the Formula 1, would have their first 90-minute session at 2:00 p.m. Finding a good position in the first session and making a good qualification is fundamental for the development of the weekend.
JM Correa (19) is an American-Ecuadorian F2 driver, that grew up in Miami, FL and currently lives in Barcelona, Spain. Juan Manuel’s 2019 racing season will be completed with Sauber Junior Team and he has been selected to participate in the Alfa Romeo Racing Formula 1 Team as Development Driver.
