“Double points scoring weekend for the young American”
June 23, 2019 – From his front row starting position, American driver Juan Manuel Correa scored his second FIA Formula 2 Championship podium at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France today. One of only seven drivers to score points in both races over the weekend, Correa moved back up in the point standings to the eighth position as the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz driver shifts his focus to the next event to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria.
“While I am happy with the result, we lost the race today at the start. We need to take a look at everything and see what happened and why,” explained Correa. “I nearly stalled so just to get off the line was good. I had to fight quite a bit to come back. That was not ideal for the tires as I was pushing every lap and did not have much clean air. When I was behind, I would push hard to see if I could catch the leader but he responded and maintained the gap. With seven or so laps to go, I realized that I was not going to catch up, so I just tried to save the tires for a bit and go for the fastest lap of the race on the last lap but there was a yellow flag so I had to abort. Overall, it was a positive weekend. Very very good for the points. “
With no time off, Juan Manuel Correa and the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz will travel to Austria to compete this coming weekend, June 28 – 30 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria.
