Juan Manuel Correa Finishes Round 11 in Eleventh at the Red Bull Ring

Aiming for a point scoring position after starting from the seventh row in round eleven of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, American Juan Manuel Correa ended the first wheel-to-wheel action in P11 and has now shifted his focus forward to tomorrow.

Taking on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz driver’s main concern was tire management in an aid to increase race pace at the end of the event. Starting from row six tomorrow, Correa will be aiming for a points paying position in the hope to add more points to his overall season total.

“Today was definitely not what we wanted. Obviously we did not have really good tire management and that is something that we need to look into to improve and also it was a bit of our strategy,” explained Correa.

“My teammate and I were on the same strategy and because he was in front of me, he was able to pit first which is normal, but unfortunately doing an extra lap on the super soft tires because of that, cost us five or six seconds of time. That meant when I came out of the pits I was far behind the train of cars in front of me and had to push quite hard to try and catch them.”

Correa continued, “A part from the first two laps where there was a bit of battling with my teammate and a lot of fun, the remainder of the race was quite boring for me as I was just trying to manage the tires since coming out of the boxes on lap seven. We have a lot of work to do for tomorrow but I believe we can get there.”

Sunday’s race two will get underway just before the Formula One World Championship event at 11:00 (GMT +2) or 6:00am (GMT-4) in the United States.
