“Wet conditions hinder results for American driver”
August 2, 2019 – Wet weather dampened the spirits today at the Hungaroring in Budapest, Hungary as Juan Manuel Correa and his Sauber Junior Team entry qualified in the twelfth position. Taking on a tricky and slick race circuit, the young American drove the FIA Formula 2 car for the first time in wet conditions as he gained experience and came to grip with the different compound of tires.
“Once again we are P12 and mid pack for the race tomorrow. The qualifying session was quite tricky with rainy conditions and fully wet. It was my first time driving in the wet in this car so I had to take some time to get use to it and understand more than anything the tires,” explained Correa. “These tires are complicated in both the slicks and the rain tires so that was definitely not easy and we did not extract the best performance out of the tires either. I think that is our main point of improvement that is needed. Apart from that if it rains tomorrow in the race, I think we will have pretty good pace on the longer runs so not just the one lap run that we have been having. On the other hand, if it is dry, the goal will remain as always and to finish in the top eight. We should be able to play a lot with strategy and tire management to help with that.”
With the first wheel-to-wheel action set to comment on Saturday at 10:10 (GMT+2), race two of the weekend will get underway Sunday at 11:25 (GMT +2). On the east coast of the United States, race times will be 4:10am Saturday and 5:25am.
